Selecting Sheep that Produce Less Methane in The New Zealand flock

Methane production from livestock is a worldwide challenge. In grass-fed systems like New Zealand we need to decouple methane production from pasture eaten to reduce methane production while maintaining animal performance. This talk describes how we are doing that using sheep breeding in New Zealand. With genetic selection can reduce methane production from our flocks without reducing stocking rate or feed eaten. We can reduce methane production without needing to use feed additives or medicines. Clever genetic selection can help reduce warming on the planet.
